ABOUT JOHN JEWELL

John Jewell currently serves as Chairman of the Frederick County Board of Supervisors. He was elected to the Board in November 2023 and appointed Chairman in October 2025 following the resignation of the previous chair.

Before joining the Board, Jewell served on the Frederick County Planning Commission from 2020 through 2023, including two years as its chairman. He previously worked for the United States Senate for 40 years and retired in 2019 as Assistant Sergeant at Arms and Chief Information Officer.

Jewell and his wife, Susan, have lived in Frederick County’s Back Creek District for more than 27 years, where they raised their family.

CAMPAIGN PRIORITIES

According to John Jewell’s campaign website, his 2026 campaign is organized around five priorities:

Small business — supporting existing employers and attracting sustainable commercial growth.

Agriculture — supporting farm families, rural land, agricultural markets, and Agricultural and Forestal Districts.

Transportation — coordinating long-term transportation planning with local, state, and federal partners as Frederick County grows.

Schools and children — encouraging multiyear facilities planning and cooperation between county and school leadership.

First responders — supporting law enforcement, fire, rescue, and emergency medical services, including their critical budget needs.

CURRENT PUBLIC SERVICE

Frederick County lists Jewell’s assignments as including the Information Technology Committee, Public Works Committee, Transportation Committee, Joint Finance Committee, Metropolitan Planning Organization, Northern Shenandoah Valley Regional Commission, and Northwestern Regional Jail Board.
